Ceramic tiles from India flooding Poland, domestic producers asking for tariffs

The growing import of cheap ceramic tiles from India is harming Polish manufacturers, prompting the industry to demand higher EU tariffs. Despite repeated appeals from the Ministry of Development to the European Commission, no response has been received. Poland, a top-three EU producer of ceramic tiles, is struggling with high energy costs and unfair competition.
The Polish Ceramic Union and European association CET have called for raising tariffs from the current 6.7–8.7% to as much as 70%. However, no progress has been made during Poland’s EU Council presidency, leaving producers disappointed. Indian tiles now account for over 50% of imports to Poland, driven by low production costs, cheap Russian energy, and fewer environmental regulations, giving them a significant price advantage of around 31%.
