Democracy at a Crossroads? Dialogue Must Replace Division

Contemporary democracy is facing a profound crisis that demands a new philosophy of dialogue and problem-solving. According to Michał Boni, former Minister of Digital Affairs and lecturer at SWPS University, modern societies must shift from egoism and division toward cooperation and shared understanding.
“Do we still live in a world of values?” Boni asked. He warned that rising individualism and ideological rigidity have led to cynicism, where conversations lack genuine intent to find common ground.
“People pretend to talk, but they’re no longer seeking solutions for the community,” he added.
Reviving democracy, Boni argued, requires renewed civic engagement and recognizing that our perspective must extend beyond personal screens or biases.
“Sometimes it takes a trip to the sea or the mountains to see something bigger,” he said.
Only then can we rediscover the ‘other’ and begin a meaningful dialogue about the future.
