Minister Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz confirmed that the European
Commission has approved the fund, redirecting some funds from the Green
Urban Transformation instrument. Local governments will benefit from
defense-related infrastructure projects, such as roads and shelters, as
well as defense research and production.
Prime Minister Donald
Tusk noted that PLN 30 billion from KPO could be allocated to defense,
pending collaboration with other ministries. The government may soon
introduce a law to simplify defense investments.
Meanwhile,
Ursula von der Leyen announced an EU rearmament plan to mobilize 800
billion euros, including €150 billion for air defense and cohesion
policy funds for military use.
Poland has already received PLN 67
billion from KPO, with a quarter of total funds contracted. Up to PLN 20
billion from the Green Urban Transformation may be reallocated for
defense investments, subject to talks with the European Commission.
