Poland’s Labor Market Index Signals Further Weakening in August

Poland’s Labor Market Index (Wskaźnik Rynku Pracy, WRP), which forecasts changes in unemployment levels, rose by nearly one point in August to 72.9 from 72.0 in July, the Bureau for Investments and Economic Cycles (BIEC) reported. This marks the fifth consecutive monthly increase, pointing to a gradual deterioration in labor market conditions.
BIEC noted that while recent reforms in employment services – such as allowing farmers to register as unemployed or enabling registration by residence rather than domicile – may temporarily push official unemployment higher, they should improve efficiency over the longer term.
Official data show registered unemployment rose 0.2 percentage points in both June and July. Meanwhile, the Labor Force Survey (BAEL) recorded a 2.8 percent jobless rate in the second quarter, down from 3.4 percent in the first quarter of 2025..
The most significant drag on the index came from a sharp decline in new job offers. Although July brought a slight rebound, inflows remain more than twice as low as a year earlier and near record lows seen in the early 2000s.
