Poland does not accept new German ambassador

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Berlin there is growing amazement at the attitude of the Polish authorities, which are delaying granting agrément to Arndt Freytag von Loringhoven, the German ambassador, as Sueddeutsche Zeitung daily wrote.
The daily reminded that the previous ambassador, Rolf Nikel, after six years at the post, said goodbye to Poland in June in a conciliatory mood. German newspaper added that among friendly countries granting new ambassadors agrees usually goes quickly.
"However, at first it seemed that the delay could be explained. On the one hand, the coronavirus slowed down diplomatic efforts, and on the other hand, everything in Warsaw revolved around the upcoming presidential elections. Six weeks had passed, however. Six weeks, during which German diplomats repeatedly asked Warsaw when the new ambassador could take the mission. They were consoled that it would not be long anymore. There was no problem,” the German journalist reported.
He added that in the meantime "astonishment is growing" at the German Foreign Ministry.
"It will be more and more difficult to ignore this almost hostile behavior, which is by no means ordinary between the closely interconnected EU and NATO countries," he emphasized.
"For a long time, the Polish government has wanted to limit the influence of foreign, especially German, publishing houses in the Polish market. Stalling in the case of a new ambassador may be a fierce attempt to increase the pressure," the daily speculated.
