Poland Declares 26 April a National Day of Mourning for Pope Francis

The President of Poland has declared Saturday, 26 April 2025, a national day of mourning following the death of His Holiness Pope Francis. The official decree was published in the Journal of Laws on 23 April and took effect immediately.
As part of the mourning protocol, Polish state flags are to be flown at half-mast across the country, especially on government buildings and offices of local and national authorities. Media outlets – including public broadcasters, commercial stations, and print editors – are required to reflect the solemn nature of the day and pay tribute to the late pontiff in their programming and publications.
Pope Francis, the first Jesuit and the first Latin American pope, passed away earlier this week. His papacy was marked by efforts to modernize the Church, champion social justice, and promote interfaith dialogue. Poland joins many other nations in mourning his loss.
