Poland Faces Growing Security Challenges Beyond the Military Front

Contemporary security risks extend far beyond traditional military threats. With Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and troop build-ups along Finland’s border, Poland is under pressure to modernize its army and strengthen its defense capabilities. Yet, experts warn that security also involves less obvious but equally pressing areas.
Artificial intelligence, a driver of technological progress, is contributing to a rapid increase in global energy demand. In Poland, where energy remains expensive and concerns about its availability are mounting, this creates new vulnerabilities. Supply chains pose another challenge, especially in sectors dependent on Chinese-origin goods such as medicines, food, and raw materials.
“During the Polish Economic Congress, we discussed two intertwined aspects: the reality of security and the feeling of security,” former Employers of Poland president Rafał Dutkiewicz said.
“Both must be nurtured. Safety and democracy are never guaranteed permanently – they require constant care, communication, and everyday effort,” he stressed.
