BIK: young Poles have PLN 8.61 bln in loans to pay back

Over 600,000 young Polish women and men live on credit, according to data from the Credit Information Bureau (BIK). Almost every fifth person (16%) aged 18-24 repays a loan. The total value of the loans taken out by young Poles is PLN 10.84 billion (as of the end of H1 2019), and the outstanding amount is PLN 8.61 billion. Young people repay a total of over 1.11 million of loans of different types, of which almost 70% are consumer loans and 20.9% are account limits. Housing loans make up a significant share of the total debt. Although they are few (1.4%) in number, their total value of PLN 2.7 billion accounts for over 30% of young people’s debt that remains to be paid back.
