Poland becoming increasingly wealthy, but there are reasons to worry

Poland continues narrowing the wealth gap with Western Europe, but the 2025 edition of the National Wealth Index (WBN) signals concerns. After a decade of steady progress, Poland’s score dropped to 66.2 points, ranking 27th out of 40 countries—just behind Estonia and Portugal. This marks a rare decline, affecting both public and private spending indicators. Public expenditure efficiency fell notably, raising questions about value for money in areas like healthcare, education, and infrastructure. Despite spending levels comparable to peer countries, results are weaker.
Analysts warn that without structural reforms and better spending allocation, Poland risks stagnation or reversal in its convergence with richer nations. Future growth hinges on reforming institutions and improving the quality of public services.
