The European Commission has called on Poland to implement the directive on entry and residence conditions for highly skilled third-country nationals coming to the EU. The deadline for aligning national laws with the directive passed over a year ago.
Directive 2021/1883 sets rules for attracting highly skilled workers to the EU, offering flexible entry conditions, expanded rights, and easier mobility between EU member states. Member states were required to implement the directive by November 18, 2023.
Poland, among four countries, has been issued a formal notice and has two months to respond and comply. If not, the case may be referred to the Court of Justice of the EU, potentially resulting in financial penalties until compliance is achieved.
