The European Commission has initiated proceedings against Poland for not conducting mandatory alcohol breath tests for pilots and cabin crew at airports, violating EU aviation safety regulations. A January 2024 audit by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) found Poland failing to test crew from domestic, European, and third-country operators landing at Polish airports. Poland has two months to respond, or the case may be referred to the EU Court of Justice.
Additionally, the Commission has advanced infringement procedures against multiple countries, including Poland, for not implementing the updated EU road toll directive ("Eurovignette"). This directive mandates member states to include environmental costs, such as CO2 emissions, in toll systems. The implementation deadline was March 25, 2024.
