Poland’s defense industry is accelerating with the development of a new heavy infantry fighting vehicle (BWP) based on the Krab self-propelled howitzer chassis. Produced by Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW), this 40-ton armored vehicle will complement the lighter Borsuk IFV and improve soldier protection on the battlefield, especially against drone threats.

The new BWP will carry three crew members and eight troops, featuring a ZSSW remote-controlled turret with a 30/40mm cannon, 7.62mm machine gun, and Spike-LR missiles. Currently self-funded, the project is set to receive government investment, with a contract for 700 units signed in 2023. Prototype tests are expected in 2025, reinforcing Poland’s strategy of modernizing and diversifying its military equipment.
