Defense sector needs workforce

Poland’s defense sector will need 250,000 new workers by 2035 to meet growing military and industrial demands, according to Deloitte's CE Economic Outlook report. This includes 70,000 soldiers, 90,000 arms industry specialists, and 77,000 supply chain workers.
The challenge is significant: Poland’s working-age population is expected to shrink by 800,000 over the same period. Already, over 40% of companies report difficulty filling roles. Deloitte warns that without trained personnel and supporting infrastructure, military modernization plans may stall.
To address shortages, experts urge policy shifts to redirect labor into productive sectors, boost vocational training, and activate underemployed groups like students, seniors, and people with disabilities.
Sustainable defense funding is also needed, as rising public debt nears the constitutional cap of 60% of GDP. Long-term success depends on automation, efficient industrial processes, and stable purchasing strategies—alongside stronger public-private partnerships to support the sector’s growth.
