In Poland, nearly 10% of renters cannot pay rent without borrowing or seeking external financial help. Families with children face the greatest challenges. Eurostat data from 2023 shows that around 58 million EU residents, or 13% of the population, reported difficulties paying rent. In Poland, 3.5 million people (9.6%) struggled with rent payments. Countries like Greece, France, and Spain had the highest rent payment difficulties, while Romania, Slovakia, Belgium, and Germany reported the lowest.

Families with children face more challenges across the EU, with 18% struggling to pay rent compared to 10% of childless households. In Poland, 12.4% of families with children had difficulties, compared to 7.6% of childless households. Additionally, rent payment issues were more common in rural areas across the EU, while in Poland, these problems were more prevalent in suburbs. Older adults experienced fewer difficulties than younger age groups.
