According to Daniel Obajtek, a former CEO of PKN Orlen and current MEP, the European Union is not technologically and economically prepared to abandon combustion engines. He argues that the current energy transformation policy in Brussels is misguided, and poorer economies, including Poland, will bear the highest costs.
"We are not facing factory closures; they are already happening," he emphasized.
The future of the automotive industry has recently become a hot topic among various factions in the European Parliament, with some politicians from the Law and Justice Party highlighting that recent decisions significantly weaken the sector. Obajtek noted that these changes could benefit Chinese and American competitors. He remarked that the EU is implementing various directives regarding combustion engines, including a ban by 2037, despite being unprepared technologically.
