The Instrat Foundation has taken a closer look at the 100 largest companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange to check what climate goals they set for themselves. The results could be better: only a quarter of the companies have set any goals. Even more disheartening, the expected combined temperature increase is still a staggering 2.64°C.

In Western markets, 70-80 percent of companies now set climate commitments.

63 companies publish basic information on emissions from the WIG100 index. However, only seven companies report Scope 3 emissions – the highest category – in all significant areas. In many industries, reporting of emissions is limited to a symbolic note – as the information relates to less than 1 percent of generated emissions.

Another problem for companies listed on the Polish stock exchange is the disclosure of greenhouse gas emissions across the entire value chain. Without this, as the report's authors note, it is difficult to understand the full carbon footprint of companies.
