Złoty weakened by Trump’s statement on potential clash with Russia

The Polish zloty weakened to its lowest level in a month on Wednesday after U.S. President Donald Trump stated that NATO members should shoot down Russian aircraft violating their airspace, Bloomberg reported. The currency slipped to 4.2707 per euro, making it one of the weakest among emerging markets, and was last trading at 4.2678, down 0.2%. Investor concerns center on the risk of escalation if a Russian fighter enters Polish or Baltic airspace.
The comments follow Polish leaders’ recent warnings of readiness to down intruding aircraft, after 19 Russian drones crossed into Poland in September. Similar provocations have occurred in Estonia, underscoring regional tensions and rattling markets.
