Peace Council offer under review
President Karol Nawrocki is considering an invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump to join a newly announced Peace Council, but Warsaw stresses the move must follow Polish law. On Monday, presidential aide Marcin Przydacz confirmed the offer and said the Foreign Ministry had been asked for guidance.
On Wednesday, ministry spokesman Maciej Wewiór said the response was delivered Tuesday afternoon. He cited the Act on International Agreements, noting any signature requires a Council of Ministers’ resolution. The ministry “remains at the president’s disposal,” he added.
Przydacz said President Nawrocki spoke with Prime Minister Donald Tusk, while government spokesman Adam Szłapka stressed that no decision has been made and procedures for joining international bodies are clear.
Trump unveiled the Peace Council last week as a new international organization on conflict resolution. Drafts name him lifetime president with broad powers. The signing is planned Thursday in Davos; diplomats warn it could sideline the UN and note the controversial invite list, including Vladimir Putin and Benjamin Netanyahu.
