Employees over 50 filling gaps left by younger generations
Poland’s labor market is increasingly confronting demographic reality: skilled workers are scarce in transport, construction, and technical trades, forcing employers to reassess attitudes toward workers aged 50+, often called “silvers.” Experts note that this group offers experience, loyalty, and stability, with lower job rotation than younger generations. Yet age discrimination remains widespread — older candidates are less likely to be invited to interviews, despite similar qualifications. Data show Poland has one of Europe’s lowest employment rates among people aged 55–64, even as the population ages rapidly.
Many over 50 struggle to reenter work after job loss and often accept lower pay. Analysts argue that flexible work, reskilling, and incentives for employers are essential to fully tap this underused workforce.
