Creator of popular game wants to sue Movie Games for console profits

Rafał Pęcherzewski, creator of Drug Dealer Simulator (DDS), has entered a legal dispute with publisher Movie Games after more than seven years of cooperation. He demands 40% of profits from the console version of DDS, several hundred thousand zlotys for unpaid development work on DDS 2, and an increase in his commission to 40% for both installments. He invokes Poland’s “bestseller clause” in copyright law, previously used by Andrzej Sapkowski in his dispute with CD Projekt.
Movie Games rejects the claims, arguing commissions are market-standard and console profits are excluded. DDS is among the publisher’s most successful titles, with the first game selling over 1 million copies and generating more than $9 million. An amicable settlement seems unlikely.
