According to the report "Hydrogen Market in Poland and Baltic Countries. Forecast until 2040" by Orlen and S&P Global, Poland's demand for renewable hydrogen (RFNBO) will be about 270,000 tons in 2030, 514,500 tons in 2035, and 934,000 tons in 2040. In total, the demand in Poland and the Baltic countries will reach 344,600 tons in 2030, 660,150 tons in 2035, and over 1.15 million tons in 2040.

The RED III directive sets minimum targets for renewable hydrogen use in transport and industry by 2030 and 2035. Achieving these targets will require significant renewable electricity, with Poland needing 13.4 TWh in 2030 and 25.5 TWh in 2035. However, renewable electricity shortages are expected in Poland and Lithuania, while Latvia and Estonia might have surpluses.

Orlen manages refineries, retail operations, energy production, and gas distribution across several countries. Its consolidated sales revenue reached PLN 372.64 billion in 2023.
