Environmental services are investigating the causes of water pollution in the Oder River after regional newspapers reported dead fish have been found along its entire length.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday that the pollution of the Oder river is a scandal and vowed that everything would be done to explain the matter and bring the culprits to justice. “The case will be appropriately investigated, clarified, and the guilty severely punished," he said.
The Polish Anglers Association appeals to citizens asking them not to catch or eat fish from the river and avoid staying close to the water. The union also recommends canceling the fishing competition planned on the Oder until the results of the water test.
The research covered the entire Lubuskie section of the Odra River. Measurements and sampling are carried out in Bytom Odrzańskie, Krosno Odrzańskie, Słubice and Kostrzyn nad Odrą. The results so far do not indicate any anomalies in the chemistry of the river water, and no deoxidation, but the investigation is still ongoing.
