Polish farmers have blocked the Medyka border crossing with Ukraine since Saturday, allowing only limited traffic, citing unmet demands to cancel the fourth installment of their agricultural tax for this year. They also oppose the EU-Mercosur free trade agreement, fearing adverse effects on their sector. Agriculture Minister Czesław Siekierski met the protesters, affirming opposition to the Mercosur deal, and noted efforts with France to block it at the EU level.
Regarding the tax dispute, Siekierski explained reallocating funds to aid farmers affected by weather-related losses. Despite this, farmers pledge to maintain the blockade until year-end, exempting personal vehicles, humanitarian, and military transport. Talks and protests continue as tensions rise over these unresolved issues.
