Poland's economic situation shows improvement as the number of individuals indebted to the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) decreased in the first half of 2024. By the end of June 2024, there were 622,300 active debtors, representing an 11.4 percent y/y decline. However, despite the reduction in the number of debtors, the overall debt owed by these payers increased by 5.1 percent over the same period, reaching PLN 19.6 billion.
The data also reveals a slight decrease in the number of applications for installment payment plans, which dropped by 1 percent y/y to just over 49,300 in the first half of 2024. Meanwhile, the number of installment agreements signed during this period slightly increased by 0.5 percent, totaling 26,800 agreements.
Experts attribute these trends to an improved labor market and better overall economic conditions in Poland, which are helping more individuals manage their financial obligations, even as total debt levels rise.
