Andrzej Domański, the Minister of Finance, has announced that his ministry will present a proposal to reduce the ‘Belka tax’. We are expected to learn what the government intends to do with it in February. During the election campaign, the Civic Platform (KO) proposed that it should not be paid by those whose profits from savings and investments do not exceed PLN 100,000.
The capital gains tax was introduced in 2002 by the then Minister of Finance, Marek Belka. It applies to the profits and capital incomes of Poles, such as bank deposits or bond interest. Currently, its rate is 19 percent of the profit generated by the taxpayer.
