Grim Year for Press Freedom: Journalists Imprisoned in 2024

Grim Year for Press Freedom: Journalists Imprisoned in 2024
Source: FMT

In 2024, as many as 573 journalists have experienced imprisonment and 550 of them will spend the end of the year behind bars, according to our latest report. This figure is, unfortunately, an increase compared to last year, underscoring the urgent need to protect journalists worldwide. Countries such as China, Myanmar, Israel, and Belarus stand out as the largest prisons for journalists.

Every day, tirelessly and relentlessly, the teams at Reporters Without Borders (RSF) work to secure their immediate release. No journalist should be imprisoned for simply doing their job. Your support is indispensable in this fight to defend journalists and uphold every individual’s right to free and reliable information.
