IKEA expands small-store format
Ingka Group, the main operator of IKEA stores, plans to open 20 smaller-format outlets across Europe and North America within the next six months as part of a broader retail expansion strategy.
The compact stores are designed to complement traditional large locations while supporting the company’s growing online sales channels. By using smaller retail spaces, IKEA aims to launch outlets faster and at lower cost, bringing its offer closer to customers in smaller cities and suburban areas.
The concept typically involves stores of around 2,000 square meters that focus on accessibility, product planning and order collection rather than full-scale showrooms.
The shift reflects IKEA’s broader omnichannel strategy, which combines physical retail with digital sales.
In Poland, the company is also expanding its footprint with a new store planned in Białystok, set to open in a former Carrefour location, further strengthening its presence in regional markets.
