NBP: Q1 saw steep decline in export of transportation and parts

In Q1 2025, Poland’s export value declined by 1.2% year-over-year to PLN 359 billion, marking the eighth consecutive quarterly drop in real export volumes (−2.2% y/y). The sharpest decline was seen in transport equipment and durable consumer goods. Agricultural exports, however, rose significantly. Weak demand in the EU and growing competition from countries like China negatively impacted export performance.
Meanwhile, imports surged by 4.5% y/y to PLN 373.1 billion, driven by strong consumer demand and increased deliveries from non-European countries, especially China, the U.S., and South Korea. As a result, the trade balance recorded a deficit of PLN 14.1 billion, compared to a surplus of PLN 6.5 billion a year earlier—the fourth consecutive quarter in the red.
