Net outflows from emerging markets amounted to $1.5 billion last week, Credit Suisse analysts said in a report. It was the 26th week of outflows from emerging markets, which proved to be the longest series in the 28-year history of calculating such statistics. Since the beginning of the series of net outflows in late April, emerging market funds have lost approximately $48.3 billion, which is the equivalent of 4% of the assets under their management.
Last week’s net outflows of $1.5 billion were accompanied by the largest redemptions in Asian ETFs (-$760 million) and active management funds in emerging markets (-$600 million). By contrast, Latin American active management funds (+$250 million) recorded the highest net inflows, which was the third consecutive positive result for the region.
Credit Suisse analyst Alex Redman noted in the study that the dividend yield for the EMEA region is about 4.6%, which is slightly below the record value seen in February 2009. The figure is twice as high as the one for the Asia region.
