Podlaskie entrepreneurs favor restoring cross-border traffic with Belarus

The United East Agreement of Polish Entrepreneurs is urging the government to restore cross-border traffic with Belarus in the Podlaskie region, claiming that national security measures should not come at the expense of local businesses. All road crossings in Podlaskie remain closed, while Lubelskie continues trade with Belarus, boosting its retail sales by 15.7% in 2024, compared to a 5.4% decline in Podlaskie.
Businesses face closures and layoffs, with leaders considering a class-action lawsuit against the state. The government has offered PLN 46.5 million in compensations and plans new financial aid, but no border reopening is expected soon. A protest is planned in Białystok on Saturday.
