Poland is one of four EU countries where the coronavirus pandemic does not weaken, according to information forwarded by Andrea Ammon, the director of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) In the vast majority of EU countries a pandemic is on the back.
Bulgaria is the only EU country in which the pandemic is increasing, while in Poland, Romania, Sweden and the non-EU Great Britain, the number of coronavirus infections remains stable.
ECDC analyzes and interprets data from EU countries on 52 infectious diseases using the European surveillance system. Recently, ECDC's work has focused on SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. According to the organization's data, so far almost 3.5 million infections have been reported worldwide and almost a quarter of a million people have died.
In Europe, where almost 1.4 million infections have been confirmed, the most affected countries are Spain (217,466 cases), Italy (210,717), Great Britain (186,599), Germany (163,175) and Russia (134,687).
Poland, where the virus appeared later than in the West, has definitely fewer infections – by Monday it was 14,000 confirmed cases. However, according to ECDC data, the spread of the virus has not yet fallen enough to say that it is in retreat.
