Study: shortened work week not a priority for Poles, flexibility more important

On August 14, Poland will launch a pilot program for a shorter workweek, with selected organizations testing models from 2026. The initiative aims to improve work-life balance, boost efficiency, and combat burnout. However, an SD Worx survey of 16,000 employees and 5,600 HR managers shows Polish workers prioritize flexible hours (38.2%), hybrid work (32.6%), and remote work (23.4%) over a four-day week (18.9%). Eurostat data ranks Poles among the EU’s most overworked, averaging 38.9 hours weekly vs. the EU’s 36.
Pilot models include four-day weeks, six-hour days, extra leave, or custom solutions. Experts stress careful planning, clear communication, and broader flexibility measures to address talent shortages and well-being.
