Nearly One in Five Poles Uses Deferred Payments

Almost 20 percent of Poles used “buy now, pay later” (BNPL) services over the past year, according to a report by CRIF. The study shows that BNPL has been rapidly gaining popularity in Poland’s e-commerce sector, with 18 percent of respondents using it in the last 12 months – well above the European average of 11 percent in Italy, Germany, France, and the UK.
Between January and May 2025, 1.4 million Poles used BNPL, compared with 1.7 million in all of 2024. “The pace of growth proves that BNPL fits perfectly with consumer needs in Poland,” Kamil Gosławski of CRIF Polska said.
The average BNPL transaction value this year reached PLN 283, with expectations that it will rise further. Analysts highlight strong growth prospects but warn of debt risks. They stress that financial education and responsible use are essential as BNPL expands into new retail sectors.
