Polish President Andrzej Duda has signed a law allocating PLN 60 billion for the country’s first nuclear power plant. The Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ) company, fully state-owned, will receive funding through capital increases, pending European Commission (EC) approval for public aid.

The Lubiatowo-Kopalino site in Pomerania will host the plant, developed in partnership with Westinghouse-Bechtel. The investment will be 30% state-funded and 70% financed through debt. Construction is set to begin in 2028, with commercial operations expected by 2036. The funding plan includes budgetary contributions and state bonds, with PLN 60.2 billion allocated between 2025-2030. The project is part of Poland’s nuclear energy strategy, aiming for 6-9 GW capacity across two plants.
