Harold James: deglobalization is a myth

Harold James, a British economic historian from Princeton, argues that fears of deglobalization are overstated. While political rhetoric—especially from the U.S.—suggests a retreat from globalization, global trade remains strong, particularly in services. He sees dedollarization as a real trend due to U.S. fiscal instability, which may benefit Europe if it deepens integration in defense and finance.
Regarding Poland, James highlights it as a major success story of globalization, noting its rapid growth and deep integration with the EU. However, rural areas still feel left behind, fueling skepticism. He believes Poland can continue to grow—provided the EU avoids protectionism and pursues reform. Technological progress and shifting production models offer further opportunities for countries like Poland to thrive.
