Purchasing power of wages in Poland to reach EU average level in 2037: report

In 2037, the purchasing power of wages in Poland could reach the EU average level, and in 2032 our country would be able to effectively combat cyber threats, according to the report of the Polish Economic Institute (PIE) published on Monday.
As emphasized, the report was written before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, but many of the scenarios described therein are still likely to be implemented.
"The outbreak of a pandemic does not mean that human capital is no longer relevant to development," Katarzyna Dębkowska from PIE, said.
In a situation of high unemployment growth, people may want to acquire new skills that will help them find their place on the labor market.
"We assumed that the purchasing power of wages will reach the EU level by 2035, but we do not know what the level of purchasing power in the EU will be compared to," she noted.
At the time the report was prepared, the most likely events were the reduction of the shadow economy in Poland as a result of the development of information and communication technologies (77 percent of chance), Poland's active participation in the AI revolution (75 percent), and Poland's successful repulse of hybrid trials ( non-military) of destabilization on the part of Russia (71 percent).
According to PIE experts, the least likely thesis is that a nuclear power plant will be built in Poland and that the share of high technology products in Polish exports will exceed the EU average. "
The report "Foresight Polska 2035. Experts about the future" is, as explained, a summary of the results of research that was carried out using the Delphi method. This method is used to predict long-term processes or phenomena of which knowledge is insufficient or uncertain.
