The EC proposes EUR 76 million to Poland for reconstruction after autumn floods

The European Commission has proposed granting €76 million to Poland for flood recovery following Hurricane Boris, which struck the western regions in September 2024. Poland is the largest recipient of a €280 million aid package from the EU Solidarity Fund, which supports countries recovering from natural disasters.
Other beneficiaries include Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Moldova. The proposal awaits approval from the European Parliament and EU member states. The mid-September floods, among the worst since 1997, severely affected the Lower Silesian, Opole, Silesian, and Lubusz regions, causing widespread infrastructure damage and claiming 26 lives, including 9 in Poland. Funds will support infrastructure repair and public safety efforts.
