On Tuesday morning, around 8 a.m., a group of 100 union members from Silesia-Dąbrowa "Solidarity" blocked railway tracks in Katowice. They were protesting against mass layoffs at PKP Cargo and PKP CargoTabor. The protest coincided with the 44th anniversary of the Jastrzębie Agreement, but instead of attending celebrations, union leaders chose to support the workers facing layoffs.
PKP Cargo announced plans to lay off up to 30% of its workforce (about 4,142 employees) due to a significant decline in rail transport. The layoffs led to delays and disruptions on major rail lines, including between Katowice and Sosnowiec. The protest ended around 10:30 a.m., and train services gradually resumed.
