A New York judge has ordered former US President Donald Trump to pay $354.9 million in fines for fraudulently overstating the value of his assets to mislead lenders. Judge Arthur Engoron also banned Trump from holding the position of director of any New York company for 3 years.
In the lawsuit, New York Attorney General Letitia James accused Trump and his family's companies of overstating their net worth by $3.6 billion over 10 years to obtain better loan terms.
Trump denies breaking the law and claims the lawsuit is political revenge by Democrat James. He has announced he will appeal.
