Data4, in partnership with the Paris-Saclay University Foundation, launched a pilot project in France to recover waste heat from data centers and use it to grow microalgae—plants that absorb CO₂ up to 20 times more efficiently than trees. The initiative aims to reduce emissions and transform data centers into bio-circular facilities, creating local ecological and economic benefits.

The technology could remove up to 13 tons of CO₂ per site annually. Similar solutions are expected in Poland, where Data4 is expanding its presence. The company opened its first campus near Warsaw in 2023 and is developing further stages, positioning Poland as a key hub for sustainable data center innovation in Central and Eastern Europe.
