Expert: offshore wind farms will provide 18 GW by 2040 for Polish power grid

Offshore wind farms are expected to provide 18 GW to Poland’s power system by 2040, likely as early as 2036–2037, said Jakub Budzyński, head of the Polish Offshore Wind Energy Chamber. This would represent about one-fourth of Poland’s current installed capacity (72 GW). Although offshore wind energy is well developed in Western Europe, it remains an emerging sector in Poland, with strong potential to boost both academic and vocational education.
During a legal conference at the University of Gdańsk, Pomeranian deputy governor Emil Rojek emphasized the large scale and importance of these projects, calling them the most significant maritime investment since Gdynia’s construction. MEP Magdalena Adamowicz stressed the need for realistic, balanced EU energy transition policies.
