JSW seeks PLN 1bn state loan
Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa plans to apply to the Industrial Development Agency, ARP, for a loan of up to PLN 1.066 billion as the troubled mining group works to stabilize its finances. JSW’s management approved the application on Monday. The proposed financing would replace an earlier plan involving the sale of shares and stakes in subsidiaries to ARP.
The loan would correspond to the valuation of assets JSW had intended to sell, including interests in PBSz and JZR. The change effectively transforms the planned asset transaction into debt financing, allowing JSW to retain ownership while securing additional liquidity. The company has faced severe pressure from weaker coal-market conditions and high operating costs, making its financial position an important issue for both the government and investors. JSW remains one of Poland’s strategically important producers of coking coal.
