Poland’s budget deficit reaches PLN 141bn
Poland’s state budget deficit reached PLN 141.06 billion after the first seven months of 2026, according to figures released Monday by the Finance Ministry. Despite the substantial headline figure, the deficit did not increase in July, helped by improving tax revenues as stronger economic activity supported government receipts. VAT revenue after July was PLN 192 billion, around 2% higher than a year earlier.
Puls Biznesu reports that July VAT receipts were among the strongest recorded this year, while corporate income tax revenue also helped stabilize the fiscal position. Excise-tax receipts remain a weak point, however, complicating government revenue plans. The figures arrive as Warsaw balances expensive defense, social and infrastructure commitments against pressure to bring public finances under greater control. Stronger GDP growth should help revenues, but Poland’s fiscal trajectory remains closely watched by investors and rating agencies.
