The Polish banking sector recorded a net profit of PLN 3.8 billion in January 2025, up from PLN 3.4 billion a year earlier, according to the Bank Guarantee Fund (BFG).

The commercial banking sector (BK) posted PLN 3.2 billion in net profit (vs. PLN 2.9 billion in 2024), while cooperative banks (BS) reported PLN 0.6 billion (vs. PLN 0.5 billion). The increase was mainly due to a 10.9% rise in net interest income, despite an 8.9% increase in administrative costs.

Key indicators improved: ROE rose to 22.67% (from 21.68%), ROA to 1.73% (from 1.7%), while the cost-to-income ratio (C/I) decreased to 50.87%. The banking sector's total assets grew to PLN 2,613 billion. As of January 2025, 517 banks operated in Poland, including 28 commercial and 489 cooperative banks.
