Poland has fifth lowest result in EU in terms of innovation

Poland ranks fifth weakest in the EU for innovation, according to the Polish Economic Institute (PIE). The European Commission's Innovation Scoreboard places Poland in the lowest category, "Emerging Innovators." Key issues include low innovation in the scientific community and a lack of intellectual assets, such as a low percentage of PhD graduates and patent applications. Poland's innovation index is 72.5, below the EU average of 110 and Denmark's 150, the leading innovator.
Top innovators in the EU are Denmark and other Scandinavian countries, with Switzerland also highly innovative. France, Germany, and the Benelux countries are "Strong Innovators," while Southern European countries like Italy and Spain are "Moderate Innovators." Most Central and Eastern European countries, including Poland, are "Emerging Innovators," except for Estonia, Lithuania, and the Czech Republic, which are "Moderate Innovators."
