Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a protest note to Hungary after it granted political asylum to Marcin Romanowski. In response, Poland’s ambassador to Hungary has been recalled for "indefinite consultations."
Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski confirmed the decision to summon the ambassador to Warsaw, while Justice Minister Adam Bodnar criticized Hungary for "violating the unity of EU member states." He noted that granting asylum could complicate efforts to arrest Romanowski.
Despite Hungary’s decision, the European Arrest Warrant (EAW) for Romanowski remains valid, even in Hungary. The Hungarian court must now decide within 60 days whether to enforce the warrant and extradite him to Poland.
