Polish economy may overtake Germany, and soon

For decades, Poland aspired to catch up with Germany’s economic strength. New data suggest this may happen within the next decade—at least when measured by GDP per capita in purchasing power parity (PPP). According to forecasts, Poland, which in 2024 lagged Germany by eight years, is closing the gap by 0.7 years annually, potentially reaching parity by 2036–2037. However, in nominal GDP, Germany remains far ahead. While Germany faces recession, high energy costs, and export competition—notably from Chinese automakers—Poland continues steady growth post-COVID.
Challenges remain, but projects like nuclear energy and Central Communication Port (CPK) could further strengthen Poland’s trajectory toward economic convergence.
