Polish ports experience record-breaking transshipment volumes
In 2025, Polish seaports recorded record performance, strengthening the government’s resolve to invest heavily in the maritime economy. Container throughput at Baltic terminals rose by 18% year on year to 3.9 million TEU, while total cargo handling reached 141 million tons. LNG transshipments increased sharply, helping offset declines in coal, grain, wood, and steel. Net profits of major ports climbed to an estimated PLN 650 million, up about 20% from 2024.
To sustain growth, the government plans to boost maritime infrastructure spending by nearly 50% to almost PLN 3 billion. Investments include offshore and LNG terminals, port access upgrades, and new container hubs in Gdańsk, Gdynia, Szczecin, and Świnoujście, reinforcing Poland’s role as a logistics gateway to Central and Eastern Europe.
