President vetoes wind farm bill, including freeze on electricity prices for households

Polish President Karol Nawrocki vetoed the amendment to the so-called wind farm law, which also included an extension of frozen household electricity prices until the end of 2025. He argued the bill primarily liberalized rules for onshore wind turbine construction, reducing the minimum distance from houses to 500 meters (down from 700 m), and that energy price caps were added artificially.
The veto sparked sharp criticism from PM Donald Tusk, who called it “bad will or gross incompetence,” warning it means higher energy bills for Poles. Nawrocki announced he will submit a separate bill preserving the electricity price freeze, stressing no changes will be made to that provision, with parliament expected to debate it in September.
