Questions arise as to how Poland will pay billions for AI gigafactory
Poland is seeking to host one of the EU’s planned AI gigafactories, a flagship digital project costing an estimated €3 billion (around PLN 8.45 billion). Under the funding model, 35% would come from public sources, with half provided by the European Commission. Poland would need to contribute over €500 million (more than PLN 2 billion), though no funds were allocated in the 2026 state budget.
The Ministry of Digital Affairs says financing will not be required before 2027, as the EU tender process is still ongoing. The gigafactory would be built by private partners under a joint procurement framework. Officials argue the project would boost GDP, attract talent, strengthen AI competitiveness and enhance Poland’s technological sovereignty.
